What is Craniosacral Therapy?
The form of CST that I practice is called biodynamic which means there is no manipulation, just listening via the hands using a very light touch. In this way it is possible to identify and relieve pain and tension held in the body. Your body will dictate the pace of the treatment and what the priorities are though these may differ from what you thought they were.
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle non-invasive, hands-on treatment that is founded in osteopathy. It involves working mainly with the cranio-sacral system (cranial bones, central nervous system and spinal cord) to facilitate subtle changes in the body. The special therapeutic touch encourages structural and physiological rebalancing using the body's own healing energy.
Treatment
Prior to treatment it is necessary to take a full case history. In more complex cases this could take up the whole of the first session. During treatment you will usually lie fully clothed on a therapy bed although you may sit on a chair if you prefer.
CST tends to work best over a course of several treatments. As you get more used to the subtle, but powerful process, so the treatment deepens and its cumulative effects become more apparent. This is often accompanied by a greater sense of wholeness and well-being.
Who can benefit from CST?
Almost EVERYBODY!
"My first experience of this type of therapy I was highly sceptical, but I have been proved wrong. I found it very beneficial in relieving pain, whereas in the past I have had to use morphine which has very bad side effects." - David
"...the acute sciatic nerve pain cleared up after the first treatment, this enabled me to go back to work (and drive the car there!)......after the second treatment, the lower back ache and stiffness that I have had on and off for several years has cleared up completely. For such a gentle non-invasive treatment the results have been amazing." - Miriam
